Dodgers: NL All-Star Voting Update: Corey Seager Gets Bumped
The MLB released their latest All-Star game ballot updated and revealed a few surprises. Much to the displease of Dodger fans, the NL saw a shift at first base and shortstop in the starting lineup.
Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was bumped from first in shortstop voting to second as Zack Cozart has surpassed Seager by nearly 200,000 votes. Cozart is now the NL starting shortstop with 997,966 votes.
Seager currently has 804,788 votes. Cozart is having a pretty solid first half with a .329 batting average and nine home runs and 33 RBI so the production certainly could warrant a starting spot in the NL. It’s just really surprising to see that Seager has dropped off in the fan voting and fans are actually rewarding players that are deserving of a starting spot.

We’ve seen in past years fans pick star players over players who are actually outproducing them but don’t have the same star power. It’s pretty obvious Seager, reigning NL Rookie of the Year, should hold more star power over Cozart, but by the numbers, Cozart may actually deserve the nod at this moment.
The good news for Seager is that there’s still plenty of time to pick up the production and to gain fan’s votes. Seager by no means is having a bad season, but his averaging falling below .300 on the season could be the reason why he fell from the starting spot.
Corey did hit his first ever career grand slam yesterday to cap of the Dodgers 18th come from behind victory and complete the sweep against the Reds. Maybe the grand slam helps spark Seager’s power and leads to more runs for the boys in blue.
The Dodgers still have three other members in the top 5 of their positions with Justin Turner in third place with 503,286 votes and Yasmani Grandal is fifth in catcher votes with 343,112. This is our time to shine, Dodger fans. We need to go out and vote and make sure the boys in blue are represented well.
