Third Base: Justin Turner vs Anthony Rendon

Remember earlier this season when some of you guys wished the Dodgers got rid of Turner and got Todd Frazier in that three-way trade instead? I remember.

Turner had an awful start to the season, but finished off incredibly strong. For the first time as a Dodger, Turner didn’t have a laughably-high BABIP, so his average was down to .275. His 27 homers nearly doubled his career total (31 coming into the season) and he played his usually-stellar defense at third. He is more than deserving of a gold glove and that’s really the only reason I hate Nolan Arenado, who has a monopoly on those for the forseeable future.

When healthy, Rendon has been great as a National. He put together a mighty fine year for the Nationals, but all his numbers were basically barely worse than Turner’s. Turner didn’t have a huge advantage at any stat, but he finished with seven more homers, five more RBI’s and a barely-better slash line (with a worse OBP).

Turner is slightly better than Rendon. Rendon is nearly six years younger, so moving forward Rendon would be a better choice. However, Turner is a better third baseman right now.
