LOS ANGELES, CA – APRIL 01: Will Smith #13 of the San Francisco Giants earns a save pitching in the ninth inning of the game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on April 1, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jayne Kamin-Oncea/Getty Images) /

Will Smith

Imagine Will Smith pitching to Will Smith.  It could be a possibility this season if the Dodgers were to trade for the Giants’ Will Smith and then call up their own catching prospect Will Smith.  The Dodgers and Giants rarely trade with one another but since Farhan Zaidi and Andrew Friedman have a history together and Zaidi knows the Dodgers’ farm system, it could spark a trade between the two rivals.

Will Smith missed all of the 2017 season due to Tommy John surgery but returned last season and was solid for the Giants.  This season Smith has pitched to a 1.17 ERA and is a perfect 5-5 in save opportunities.  He has also held the opposition to a .160 batting average against.  Since Smith is a free agent after this season, the cost for him wouldn’t be as high as another reliever with years of control left.
