SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – AUGUST 26: Enrique Hernandez #14 of the Los Angeles Dodgers looks on after hitting a solo homerun during the sixth inning of a game against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park on August 26, 2019 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images) /

Option 1: Kiké at second, Beaty at first

This is the option Roberts chose to employ on Thursday night with a righty in Merill Kelly on the mound for the Arizona Diamondbacks. This option is solid, with A.J. Pollock and Joc Pederson manning the outfield spots not occupied by Cody Bellinger.

This protects Taylor from facing righties. But CT3 is actually hitting righties better than lefties, with a .275 average, 12 doubles, 3 triples, and 3 home runs. Hernandez? A batting average of .241 with 10 home runs, a triple and 12 doubles in roughly 50 more ABs than Taylor.

Taylor may be the better answer whenever the team faces a righty pending Muncy’s return, at least over Hernandez. And yet, there still may be an even better option to play second base and hit second against righties. The only problem is that he is not on the MLB roster at the moment…
