And the Outfield?

Alex Verdugo-In 343 ABs, Verdugo established himself both as a fan-favorite and as a viable candidate to start in the outfield, despite having to battle for playing time early in the season. He hit .294 with 12 home runs in his first season as a starting outfielder, though injuries cut his season short at 106 games. If he can stay healthy, a 20 home run and 10 steal season with a .290+ AVG could be in the works for his sophomore season. A-

More from Dodgers Way

A.J. Pollock– I don’t know many people who were excited about the Pollock signing. That disdain went up and down as he went between being irrelevant and injured all season long, with a few big games on offense. By season’s end, he was relegated to left field and was being benched in the playoffs. He had double-digit strikeouts with no hits in the NLDS. C-

Cody Bellinger– An MVP-candidate despite a colossal breakdown in the second half, his 47 home runs and .300+ AVG make him the best all-around hitter on the Dodgers, though that didn’t show in the postseason. Hopefully, an offseason to contemplate how to hit for average late in the year will give him another hot start to what will be his third full season. But outside of hitting, Bellinger is the best defender on the team and led the team in steals, so he really does look like a budding superstar. A-

Joc Pederson– Man oh man, JocPop really did explode this season. His 36 home runs all came against righties, but his established role meant he had clear playing time, and he excelled. Making the All-Star team and performing admirably in the Home Run Derby, Pederson had the best season of his career in 2019. Maybe he’ll get a chance to hit righties this Spring Training because being a platoon player really limits his ceiling… B+
