Dodgers: Which minor league free agents should be kept?
Jaime Schultz
Schultz is someone that Andrew Friedman is familiar with, he drafted him back during his time in Tampa Bay. Although Jaime’s stats haven’t quite shown what he is capable of, his stuff has. He has averaged more than a strikeout per inning in nearly every season of his minor league career and he throws in the upper 90’s. He also has a slider/cutter and a curve. He would be a good live arm to keep for depth purposes in AAA.

Tyler Thornburg
At one point, during the 2012 season, Tyler Thornburg was a top 50 prospect in baseball. While we are entering 2020, Thornburg will play most of next season as a 31-year-old. He still throws in the 94 MPH range and struck out more than a batter per inning in 18 2/3 innings with the Boston Red Sox despite posting a 7.71 ERA. As a AAA depth option, Thornburg would be a good pitcher to keep around in case he finally puts it all together.
Jesen Therrien
The Dodgers signed Therrien after Tommy John surgery although he did not throw a single pitcher for them this season in the minor leagues. Therrien has rarely been healthy but when he has, performance has not been an issue. From 2015-2017 he posted ERA’s of 1.43, 2.59, and 1.41. Therrien should be a cheap low-risk option to bring back that could end up being a nice under the radar signing if he finally reaches his previous form.
Stetson Allie
Allie is a former infielder who has transitioned into a full-time reliever. The Dodgers have had success in that type of conversion with Pedro Baez and Kenley Jansen. Stetson Allie throws in the upper 90’s with ease but his issue has been his control. Despite 40 strikeouts in 32 innings at OKC this year, he walked 31 batters. Allie did allow a decent average of .236. He could be worth bringing back since the issue has never been his arm but rather his control.
