Phenom Julio Urias Expected to Miss at Least a Month After Eye Surgery
Dodger top pitching phenom right hander Julio Urias will undergo eye surgery forcing him to miss at least a month of the season. The 18-year old will have elective cosmetic eye surgery with the Dodger’s consent.

I am sure everyone has noticed that Urias has a defect in his left eye. Apparently there is a benign mass behind it, and the surgery is to remove it. They call it a peri orbital benign mass removal. The club reported that Urias will have the surgery on May 28, and can resume Baseball activities sometime in June. The club expects him to return to the Tulsa rotation at the end of June.
The Dodgers are very supportive of Urias having the procedure done during the middle of the season because it helps limit the innings on the youngster’s arm. The Dodgers want to be careful not to place too many innings on him as he develops.
“Obviously, one of our main intentions — independent of the procedure — is to protect Julio and limit his workload,” said Kapler.

Urias’s condition has never effected his pitching, which makes his performance and talent even more impressive considering he has been pitching with just one good eye. Gabe Kapler has also stated that Urias deserves the protection and the club is thrilled to give it to him.
The Dodgers will have another top prospect Jose De Leon take his place in the double-a Tulsa rotation.
Urias has been tearing up the Texas League throughout the season so far. The phenom is 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts this season. He has whiffed 46 in 36 frames, and posted an 11.5 strikeout per nine rate while allowing just 9 walks. He’s allowed only three long balls and posted a 0.9 WHIP.
