After being swept in a four game series with the Miami Marlins, the Dodgers are looking for a clean slate tonight as they start a new series with the San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers lost last night, but immediately following the game it was announced that former Dodger and current Miami Marlin, Dee Gordon has been suspended for 80 games due to the use of PED’s. So, the sweep doesn’t count right? I too was shocked to hear about it and am pretty disappointed in him.

Dodgers are walking into a new series which means a clean slate. Tonight is the first game of a three game series with the San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers will be sending Alex Wood to the mound. Wood is coming into tonight’s game with a record of 1-2 and an ERA of 6.00. In his four starts Wood has struck out 12 batters and walked 11. Wood has pitched 21.0 innings so far this season and in those innings, he has given up 26 hits. The last game Wood started was against the Rockies in Coors Field. In that outing, he pitched five innings and gave up six hits, walked three and struck out five. Wood has had a rough season so far in 2016. The biggest problem with him has been control and not going deeper into games. Ideally, he should at least be going until the sixth in my opinion.

The Padres will be sending Cesar Vargas out to the mound for them. Vargas is entering tonight’s game with a record of 0-0 and an ERA of just 1.80. He has struck out three and walked three. Last November the Padres signed Vargas as a minor league free agent. After impressive performances in Double A and Triple A while in the Yankees farm system, Vargas earned himself a major league contract from the Padres. Vargas also was previously a relief pitcher, but the Padres have used him as a starter.

Dodgers are going up against a pitcher who has never faced them and does not have much experience in the major leagues. It will be interesting to see how Vargas handles the pressure. Hopefully the Dodgers bats will wake up tonight and they can break this four game losing streak.

Tonight’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM and will be shown on Sports Net LA.
