With a number of needs this off-season the Dodgers have checked in with the Kansas City Royals on a pair of All-Stars

The Dodgers have already proved to be one of the busiest teams at this years winter meetings. After agreeing to bring back starter, Rich Hill on a 3 year deal, SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo notes that the Dodgers have checked in with the Kansas City Royals who are believed to be open to trading some of their top assets this winter.

Coming off a 4th straight season atop the NL West, the Dodgers enter the winter meetings needing to fill the gaps left by free agents Justin Turner, Kenley Jansen and Chase Utley. With that in mind the Dodgers are believed to be in discussions with Royals on all-stars Wade Davis and Lorenzo Cain.

In Case of Emergency, Break Glass

Faced with the possibility of a bullpen without superstar closer Kenley Jansen, the Dodgers have begun exploring insurance policies, most notable of which is Royals Closer Wade Davis. With the Marlins, Yankees and Cubs all known to be in pursuit of Jansen, retaining their star closer is far from a sure thing despite remaining in close contact with the Curacao native. In light of this, the Dodgers front office has begun looking towards alternatives in case they lose out in the battle for Jansen.

More from Dodgers Way

Davis, a failed starting prospect, blossomed into one of the games very best relievers after finding his way to Kansas City in 2013. A 2 time all-star, Davis is perhaps the best closer available on a market flush with relief options. Over the last 3 seasons, Davis has worked to a 1.18 ERA with 11.53 K/9 and 2.91 BB/9 to go along with 47 saves.

Cain you Dig it?

The Dodgers haven’t limited their talks with the Royals just to Davis and it appears the front office are looking to get creative in upgrading the roster. The Dodgers have also reportedly inquired on all-star center fielder Lorenzo Cain.

After posting the worst offensive performance against left-handed pitching, the Dodgers have been connected to a number of right-handed bats this off-season. Cain would serve as a spark plug for the top of the Dodgers lineup as one of the games better power/speed threats.

Next: Dodgers Sign Rich Hill

Cain is coming off of a 2016 campaign in which he hit .287/.339/.408 with 9 home runs and 14 stolen bases while playing above average defense in CF.
