The Dodgers and the entire Dodger community mourn for manager, Dave Roberts after learning that his father, Waymon Roberts, has passed away Friday morning.
Father of Dodgers’ manager Waymon Roberts, 68, was a former U.S. Marine and spent nearly three decades relocating from one military base to another.
In light of the news, manager Dave Roberts left the team to be with his family during a shocking, difficult time. Bench coach, Bob Green and Oklahoma City manager Bill Hasselman will manage the team during Roberts’ absence.
During difficult times like these, we’re reminded that baseball is much more than just a game. It brings people together. The entire Dodger team and staff reacted to the tragic news and send their best wishes to the entire Roberts family.
We on behalf of Dodgers Way send our deepest condolences to the Roberts family. As a professional manager, you are often asked to spend many hours away from family. That’s a big sacrifice that often goes unsaid, but it’s not one that as a fan goes unnoticed.
There is no timetable for Roberts to return to spring training. But the Dodgers don’t leave
Camelback Ranch until March 29th so there’s plenty of time for Roberts to be with his family.

Waymon Roberts, a San Diego resident, would occasionally be seen at Dodger games every so often. He was also at Dave Roberts’ introductory press conference and gave high praise to his son becoming the first half African-American, half Japanese manager in the MLB.
