Dodgers On A Roll

The Los Angeles Dodgers are riding a seven game winning streak, and will look to continue their winning ways against Houston Astros. The Dodgers have scored a total of 37 runs over their last seven games, and have scored 190 runs this season (4th in NL). The Dodgers as a team are batting .271/.344/.422, and are the hottest team in the National League.

A sweep of the NL West leading San Diego Padres moved LA within two games of first place. Much of the Dodgers’ recent success, however, is a result of their much improved pitching staff. Over their last seven games, the Dodgers have outscored their opponents 37 to 13, and the Dodgers staff has lowered their team ERA to 4.41 (10th in the NL). Yesterday’s starter, Chad Billingsley, improved to 4-2 and lowered his ERA to 4.02 with 7.1 scoreless innings against the Padres. Hiroki Kuroda also has four wins of his own, and Clayton Kershaw is currently 3-2 this year. If the Dodgers continue to get solid performances out of their starters, their bullpen (led by Jonathan Broxton) should be able to close things out.

The Dodgers’ lineup, however, continues pose problems for opposing pitchers. Led by Andre Either, who could potentially challenge Albert Pujols for NL MVP, the Dodgers’ offense continues to be one of, if not the best offenses in the National League. If the pitching staff can continue to improve, the Dodgers should be in first place sometime very soon.
