The first day of spring is in the books Dodger fans. As the rest of the boys in blue begin to trickle into Camelback ranch, I figure I would update you on some news and notes from around Camelback Ranch. Remember position players don’t report until February 27th. The first full club workout is scheduled for the 28th. So here are some various tidbits from the first day of Spring training.
First off, Steve Dilbeck of the L.A. Times is reporting that Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly has named Clayton Kershaw as the opening day starter. File this under the category of stuff we already know.
The next piece of news is also from Dilbeck.
Remember how we weren’t sure whether middle reliever Blake Hawksworth would be ready by opening day? Well, apparently he will not be ready by opening day. Hawksworth who had elbow surgery back in January, had to have a second surgery because of an infection he contracted from the original surgery. He will begin the year on the disabled list. This means his spot in the bullpen is up for grabs. Who do you think will take his spot? Please Record your answer in the poll below.
We also have learned that Mattingly has already announced that Dee Gordon will bat lead-off, and Matt Kemp will bat third. I’m fine with this. According to a tweet from Dylan Hernandez Dylan Hernandez Tweet manager Don Mattingly has decided to go with Javy Guerra as the closer for now. This is news we already figured. Although we all expect for Kenley Jansen to eventually take over that role.
In other funnier news, Apparently Matt Kemp, and Tony Gwynn Jr. had no problem telling Prince Fielder a few harmless little white lies while they were attempting to woo him before the Tigers swooped in and signed him. We can’t blame Bison and Gwynn for trying can we? When Fielder asked about how the ball carried at Dodger Stadium, Gywnn of course lied through his teeth. His response was “ It’s not that bad once June rolls around”. Riiiiiight, sure Tony, and if you believe that, I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you.
One final note of hilarity. I have created a special section above called “the Troll Bridge”. In this section I will be posting up the most idioctic and ridiculous comments on our site and around the internet.
"The definition of an internet troll is a troll is someone who posts inflammatory extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional responses or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: “That was an excellent troll you posted”.While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe “a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."
We welcome all comments and opinions, however insulting and disrespectful comments will not be tolerated. Picking apart our posts for errors and or being generally rude and insulting will get you a one-way ticket into the troll bridge. Case in point, commenter Native Angeleno. He makes a point to pick apart our pieces and be generally petty and insulting while bringing zero value to this site. Sure sounds like a troll to me. I am the first to admit that I am human, and sure occasionally an error or two might find it’s way into our posts. It happens, we’re human. If there is an error or two in our posts please let us know, and we will fix and we appreciate the heads up. Just be nice about it. Otherwise, you just might find yourself in the troll bridge, which is a place where stupid comments go to die and be ridiculed. While Stacie has patience to try and educate these trolls, I have zero patience and a zero tolerance policy for trolling. However she has little patience for mediocre aging back-end starting pitchers, so I guess we all have our pet peeves. So there is that. (relax Native this is all in good fun, on your account!)
So without further adieu, I hereby crown Native Angeleno the Lasorda’s Lair Troll of the month! Congratulations Native Angeleno! So please check out the troll bridge and have a laugh!
Of course Josh Macciello might be able to relate……
