Dodgers Can’t Do Anything Wright These Days

The Dodgers can’t do anything right these days, no pun intended. The Dodgers lost their fifth straight game, and have lost ten of their last eleven games. Tonight the Dodgers lost to the Mets  by a score of 3-2. The Dodgers came into the game having not scored a run in their last 29 innings, and were held scoreless until they finally scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-2. By doing that they avoided tying the modern Dodger record of 35 innings without a run, the 1962 team did that. The 1908 Dodgers went 41 innings in a row without crossing the plate, which is still the Dodger record. With the Dodger’s latest pathetic loss, and the Giants win, the Dodgers have now fallen out of first place for the first time this season.

David Wright, the Dodger killer, drove in two of the three New York runs, with a double and a solo home run. The Dodgers scored two runs on seven hits.

Anyways, the team really sucks right now. What’s most frustrating is the team is choosing to play their worst hitters I.E. Juan Uribe, James Loney, and Adam Kennedy. Both Kennedy and Loney were in the lineup tonight. Loney is cooked. He is 0 for his last 23 and I doubt he will ever get a hit again at this point.

Chris Capuano pitched seven quality innings allowing three runs on five hits, and whiffing five. Of course it wasn’t enough, since we have no offense. Chris Young who has missed a lot of time this year because of injury, got the win, by pitching six innings, and allowing two runs, six hits, and six whiffs. Capuano falls to 9-3 on the season, but continues to pitch very well. I think he deserves an all-star spot for his great season.

The Mets scored one run in the first, when Ruben Tejada singles, and advances to second on a wild pitch. David Wright, the Met’s version of Matt Kemp, doubles down the line to score Tejada to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Mets scored another run in the top of the fourth, when David Wright, the Dodger killer, crushed a solo home run to left field, and the Mets were up 2-0.

The Dodgers would finally score in the bottom of the fourth. Dee Gordon a bloop double into center field. Elian Herrera triples over the head of Andre Torres, to score Dee, and yes yes yes, finally the Dodgers have scored their first run in 33 innings. It’s almost unreal. The Dodgers amazed us by adding one more run, as Juan Rivera would single up the middle to score Herrera and we are tied at two. No word on whether the home plate from the game will be sent to Cooperstown for posterity.

The following inning in the top of the fifth, the Mets would add the final decisive run. It doesn’t take many runs to beat the Dodgers these days. Mike Nickeas singles, and is sacrificed to second. Light hitting former Giant Andre Torres doubles down the line in right to score Nickeas  and the Mets retake the lead 3-2. That would be all she wrote, and because you and I both know, that once the Dodgers are down, with this lineup, they don’t get back up.

After the sixth inning the Dodgers would only get one more hit, and the Mets would use three pitchers to finish the game. Bobby Parnell would pick up his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth. The Dodgers are now in second place, and keep free falling in the standings. It’s pathetic. Once Kemp, Ethier, and Mark Ellis come back I think that will be ok, but how much longer can we wait?

Andre Ethier’s MRI results were inconclusive. The results told us what we already know, a mild strain of his left oblique. The location of the injury is strange for a left handed bat. The Dodgers have said they not place Ethier on the DL, and he is day-to-day.

Tomorrow night, the Dodgers will play their second game of the four game series against the Mets. The Mets will have Cy Young Candidate R.A. Dickey, senior knuckleballer, who is like 800-1 this year with an ERA of 0.05. David Wright is also batting 80 billion against the Dodgers. The Dodges will counter with Aaron Harang.

The problem is Dodger Management is very passive. Their strategy is to just wait and sit on their hands until everyone returns from injuries. Passivity doesn’t work in Baseball. Just ask the Phillies how that strategy is going. This is Baseball. The tough decisions have to be made. I know it is too early to make trades, but we could at least cut the terrible players and call up a couple more guys from the minors. Uribe, Loney, and Kennedy all need to go. Where is the accountability in general? I tell you this, if you or I failed at our jobs for three months in a row, we would be fired instantly. I am not saying they’re not nice guys, I am sure that they are, but this is Baseball and if you aren’t producing you need to be gone.

If the Dodgers don’t do something soon, they might be in third place by the all-star break. Keep in mind I said MIGHT, not that they will necessarily. Anyways, tomorrow look out for the sweet knuckler! It will be floating all over Dodger Stadium tomorrow.

I won’t be watching tomorrow for the first time all season, while Stacie will be covering the game. I have to go to math class. What’s really scary is I am actually looking forward to going to Math class more, instead of watching the Dodger game, that’s how bad they are right now. That is scary indeed. I need a day off anyways for my mental health. Go Blue.
