One Run Won’t Cut It For Dodgers In D.C. Loss
By Scott Andes

The 2012 Dodgers are like the perfect recipe for losing. Imagine the Dodgers as the emeril Lagase, or Gordon Ramsay of a second half collapse. You can’t blame one specific area, but mix them all in together and you have a hearty two months of losery. Add 2.5 cups of no offense. Mix in no hitting with runners in scoring position, a weak bench, a dash of a depleted pitching staff, an inexperienced manager, and mix in futile trades for under-performing all-stars, and you have a team that has tanked in the second half. It’s Terribly disappointing. The Dodgers just can’t hit, and it’s not likely to change this season. I mean I have almost run out of things to say about this offense. How many different ways can I say the Dodgers suck? The Dodgers could only muster one run in their 3-1 loss in game one of the doubleheader to the Washington Nationals.

Aaron Harang lasted only 4.2 innings before he was hooked after making 92 pitches. He allowed two runs , two hits, walked two and whiffed two. The loss puts him under .500 for the season, at 9-10. JorDon Zimmerman picked up the win for Washington. Zimmerman pitched six frames, allowing one run, six hits, and whiffed four. Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless top of the ninth, and picked up his 32nd save of the season.
Washington scored a run in the bottom of the second inning off of Harang. Michael Morse, (practice swing boy) singled. Danny Espinosa singled PSB to third. He would score on a Kurt Suzuki sacrifice fly.
The Dodgers tied it up at 1-1, when they plated a run in the top of the third. Andre Ethier, and Matt Kemp both singled, and Hanley Ramirez’s bloop single scored Ethier.
The Nationals scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, and sixth to take a 3-1 lead. Bryce Harper tripled to lead off the fifth inning, and scored on a Ryan Zimmerman grounder. Kid Hype’s triple was his 49th extra base-hit. That sets a MLB record for extra base-hits for a teenager. Remember Harper is only 19 years old. In the bottom of the sixth, Ian Desmond doubles. Suzuki singles him to third. Desmond would score on a Tyler Moore ground out. Hanley, and Luis Cruz each had two hits in a losing cause. Zimmerman, Ian Desmond, and Kurt Suzuki all had two hits as well for Washington.
That would be it. The Dodgers collected nine hits, but were an atrocious 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position, and left nine men on base. The loss knocks the Dodgers down to only four games above .500. (76-72). Josh Beckett will be countering lefty John Lannan in the second game of the twin bill, which is starting right about now.
