Tim Wallach To Interview For Boston Manager Job

This news just came in. According to a tweet from Ken Gurnick, Dodger’s third base coach Tim Wallach will be interviewing for the Boston Red Sox vacant manager position.

Wallach was a former player who played for 16 MLB seasons, with three different teams. Wallach played for Montreal (1980-1992),the Dodgers (1993-1995, 1996), and the Angels (1996). Wallach was a third baseman for most of his career, collected 2,085 hits, and was a five time all-star. Wallach hit 260 home runs, won three gold gloves, and was best known for his defensive skills at the hot corner.

If you remember Wallach was the Dodger’s hitting coach from 2004-2005. After former manager Jim Tracy was fired, Wallach was sent down to the farm to manage the Albuquerque Isotopes during the 2009 season. Wallach led the Isotopes to 80 wins, and a playoff appearance, and was named the PCL manager of the year. In November of 2010, Wallach was named third base coach of the Dodgers under manager Don Mattingly. Many people including myself have always thought that Wallach would make a good manager, and was secretly hoping that he would get consideration to manage the Dodgers before Mattingly was eventually hired.

According to this tweet from Ken Gurnick, Wallach will be interviewing for the vacant Boston manager position. The reason why Boston is looking for a manager is because they recently fired Bobby Valentine. The Red Sox finished in last place this year in the AL East. Bobby Valentine only managed the Red Sox for a year before being canned.

Gurnick reported that if Wallach does not get the Boston managerial job, he will return to the Dodgers as the third base coach for the 2013 season.
