Alfredo Silverio Optioned To Double-A, 40-Man Roster Now at 36

In case you haven’t heard by now, the Dodgers have outrighted outfield prospect Alfredo Silverio to Double-A Chattanooga. The move is intended to clear roster space on the 40 man roster. Silverio had what many considered a break out year last season. The 25 year old right handed hitting Domincan outfielder played in 132 games in 2011 for Chattanooga.

That season he posted a line of .306/.3/.542 with an OPS of .883. Silverio hit 16 home runs, 95 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. He had 163 hits, walked 30 times, and whiffed 91. While needing to cut down on his strike outs, and increase his walks, the youngster had ranked atop the Dodgers depth chart for prospects on the fast track to the majors. Unfortunately a serious car accident deterred his development. The January car accident caused him to miss the entire 2012 season. Silverio suffered a concussion and eventually had to have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow back in May.
Silverio was added to the 40 man roster last November to protect him from being stolen in the rule-5 draft. With Silverio being optioned, the Dodger’s 40 man roster is now currently at 36 players.
