Four Dodgers Nominated For Gibby Awards

Four Dodgers are nominated for this year’s Gibby awards. The Gibbys are the Greatness in Baseball Yearly award. Each season the Gibby’s are presented to the best of the best in 21 categories. The Gibbys are known as the most comprehensive MLB awards of the year. Each category is voted on by the media, front office personnel, MLB alumni, the fans at, and the society for American Baseball research.

The four Dodgers nominated for awards are starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, setup-man Ronald Belisario, and shortstop Justin Sellers.

Kershaw is nominated for starting pitcher of the year for his complete and utter domination over all opponents. Once again, Kershaw continues to show us why he is the best pitcher we have ever seen in our lifetimes. Kershaw followed up his Cy Young award season of 2011, with another Cy Young type season with a runner-up finish this year. (We all know he should have won, but I digress). Kershaw finished the season with a 14-9 record, a 2.53 ERA, 229 whiffs, 63 walks, and a 1.023 WHIP. Kershaw led the league in ERA, WHIP, and hits per nine. Kershaw has also been selected to two all-star games, has won a gold glove, and many other off the field awards for his numerous charity projects.

Nasty Venezuelan set-up man Ronald Belisario is nominated for set-up man of the year. Belisario had a comeback season and a year of redemption. The Right hander who had missed all of the 2011 season because of Visa problems stemming from a drug problem, was once seen crying in the dugout after a poor performance during a game in Philadelphia back in 2010. He finished the season with an 8-1 record, 23 holds, a 2.54 ERA, 69 whiffs, and a 1.07 WHIP. Note also his third place finish in the NL Comeback player of the year award.

Gonzo is up for Defensive player of the year.-Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez is up for the award of defensive player of the year. Gonzo has been known as one of the best defensive first baseman in all of Baseball. Gonzalez during the 2012 season he split between the Red Sox, and the Dodgers, finished with a .998 fielding percentage, and had 16 defensive runs saved. Gonzo only made three errors all season, and only one with the Dodgers. Gonzalez has won three gold gloves, four all-star selections, and had 43 first baseman scoops during the 2012 season. His defensive excellence could earn him a Gibby.

Last but not least, shortstop Justin Sellers has been nominated for best play of the year. The play in question took place on May 14. In a 3-1 win against Arizona. During the ninth inning, Sellers made a running over the shoulder catch on a pop up in foul territory and dove head first into the stands while making the catch. Sellers’s heart and desire can never be in question as he risked his career, in order to make that catch, which helped the Dodgers win the game. As a result, Sellers suffered a season ending back injury that required surgery, and he was never seen again. A nice Gibby on the trophy case could help his back feel better. The guy deserves it.
