Spring Training 2013: Pitchers and Catchers Workout for First Time

Cell phone pictures depicting some of our Boys in Blue began to hit Twitter and the internet. That only means one thing…Spring Training is here! We got our first glance at most of the Dodger pitchers and catchers who began to work out today at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona for the Dodgers fifth Spring Training at the shared facility. The Dodgers share the compound with the Chicago White Sox. You can read an overview of the beautiful baseball complex in my post from last year.
Camelback Ranch- Glendale, Arizona
There are 29 pitchers and 5 catchers working out at Camelback. Eliezer Alfonzo was the only catcher (a non-roster invite) who was absent due to family reasons. Wednesday morning the first group of 14 Dodger pitchers threw their first bullpen session including Clayton Kershaw, Chris Capuano, Josh Beckett, Chad Billingsley, Stephen Fife, Matt Magill, Matt Guerrier, Javy Guerra, Shawn Tolleson, Paco Rodriguez, Kelvin De La Cruz, Chris Withrow, Gregory Infante, and Mark Lowe.
Matt Kemp, Clayton Kershaw, and A.J. Ellis were busy being filmed with ESPN’s 360-degree slow motion cameras. The footage will be used for features aired during Dodger games which are scheduled to be on Sunday Night Baseball this season. Kemp, Kershaw, and Don Mattingly were also interviewed by ESPN.
Hyun-Jin Ryu was seen “huffing and puffing” while working out with his teammates during the first conditioning run. Thursday Ryu will pitch his first bullpen session. This will also be the very first time Ned Colletti or Don Mattingly will see Ryu pitch live.
The full Dodger squad is scheduled to report on Friday.
