Tommy Lasorda and Slim Fast
Not too long after the Dodgers won their last World Series in 1988, then manager Tommy Lasorda joined the slim fast program. Slim fast is a commercial drink that allows you to lose weight. I’m not sure exactly how it does this, but I think it suppresses the appetite, so you are not hungry and governs food portion control. just look at how thin tommy looked in that photo!
It’s no secret Tommy loves to eat. Who doesn’t right? Tommy loves his pasta, and I’m sure he never met a meal he didn’t like. Tommy’s huge belly almost took a life of it’s own. Tommy endorsed a lot of products back in those days, but none more popular than the slim fast advertisements he did. In order to shed some pounds, and eat healthier, Tommy not only became the slim fast spokesman, but he also joined the program himself. He began doing a very popular series of commercials for the slim fast weight loss drink that aired all the time on television. His belly and diet became a frequent topic of conversation back in those days. Even opposing announcers would ask aloud what was going on with Tommy’s diet.
I was proud of Tommy for taking the initiative to change his own diet, and improve his health. I hope Tommy continues to eat and live a healthy lifestyle. When talking about Tommy Lasorda, nobody can forget the famous slim fast ads and commercials he did back in those days. So the number five Tommy Lasorda moment of all time is his Slim Fast campaign. To this day, Tommy still has his trademark belly. Tommy was the ultimate motivator and spokesman.
"Tommy once said…….”When we win, I’m so happy I eat a lot. When we lose, I’m so depressed, I eat a lot. When we’re rained out, I’m so disappointed I eat a lot.”"
That was classic Tommy, down to the very last bite.
