The Dodgers lose their Cactus League opener 9-0 vs. the White Sox.

The Dodgers only managed three base hits against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday afternoon as they lost 9-0 in their Cactus League opener. Clayton Kershaw picked up the loss after pitching two innings and allowing two runs while striking out three and walking none. Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham each had RBI doubles off the left-hander.

Ronald Belisario came in for the third inning and allowed two additional runs to Chicago. Dayan Viciedo hit a two-run single after the White Sox loaded up the bases with nobody out.

Stephen Fife allowed a lead-off homerun in the fifth inning to Tyler Flowers which gave Chicago a 5-0 lead.

Mark Lowe pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Dodgers. Kelvin De La Cruz allowed another two earned runs in the top of the seventh inning. Matt Magill pitched 1 1/3 innings while striking out three batters. Gregory Infante proceeds to serve up another two runs in the ninth inning after allowing a two-run homerun to Seth Loman.

While the White Sox racked up 14 hits against the Dodgers, the Dodgers could only muster three hits. Juan Uribe, designated hitter, singled to center field in the third inning. Andre Ethier tripled in the fourth. Remember last Spring Ethier had a very hot start and collected quite a bit of extra-base hits. Yasiel Puig doubled to left field in the ninth inning.

Dylan Axelrod got the win for Chicago after pitching three scoreless innings and striking out four Dodgers.

The Dodgers were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Even though this is just exhibition play, low run production was a troubling problem of the 2012 Dodgers which hopefully will not continue to plague this 2013 team.

Tomorrow’s game versus the White Sox will feature starters Zack Greinke followed by Hyun-Jin Ryu. Erik Johnson will start for the White Sox. The 12:05 p.m. game will only be on Gameday.
