As the Dodgers continue on with their cactus league schedule, two Dodgers are sitting today out with minor injuries. Third baseman Luis Cruz, also known as Cochito, is out for the next day or so with the flu. Cruz had to miss all of Tuesday and received an IV treatment at the hospital for his flu like symptoms. Manager Don Mattingly said he was feeling a little better today, and is hopeful Cruz can return to the Dodger lineup on Thursday. Somebody get Cochito some chicken soup! Stat! Why is it every spring training there is always some flu bug that spreads it’s wings around the Dodger clubhouse? Remember when Belisario and several other Dodgers getting strep throat? And of course who can forget the dam little flu germs that hit Clayton Kershaw on opening day. Let’s get some vitamin C into the Dodger Clubhouse.

Tony Gwynn Jr. is also battling a minor injury of his own. Gwynn apparently has been suffering from a groin pull. The groin injury has forced Gwynn to miss his second consecutive day of workouts. The left handed hitting outfielder is looking to make the team’s roster as a fourth outfielder. Speaking of Gwynn, We also learned in an article from Ken Gurnick the other day, that he played all of last season with a secret injury that was not disclosed to the club. Apparently Gwynn had hurt himself lifting weights during the winter of 2011, and believes he had a sports hernia the entire season. He chose not to have surgery. The Dodgers had no idea, and Gwynn never received an MRI. Gwynn is 0 for 1 with four walks, and a stolen base so far this spring. This doesn’t bode well for Gwynn’s already slim chances of making the Dodger opening day roster.
