The Dodgers litterally manhandled the Chicago White Sox tonight at Camelback Ranch in a 10-4 laugher. The pitching match-up tonight pitted former Cy Young winner Jake Peavy against Dodger lefty, and Korean star Hyun-jin Ryu. This was a mismatch from the beginning, as Ryu pitched seven strong frames, to pick up the win. Yasiel Puig was one of the many offensive stars of the game. He entered the game as a defensive replacement for Carl Crawford in left field. Puig dazzled everyone again by collecting three more hits to go 3 for 3 on the night. The game was filled with PuigAlerts around every corner! This season is going to be a lot of fun.
The Dodgers scored ten runs on thirteen hits. Matt Kemp had a two-run double, and Andre Ethier had a three-run double among the big hits. Puig contributed with a double and two singles and two runs scored. The Cuban sensation raised his spring batting average to an almost superhuman .547 (29 for 53). Despite this, the Dodgers are still preparing to start Puig in the minors. There remains no starting positions available for him to play.

Ryu pitched seven frames, allowing two runs, on only one hit, two walks, and whiffed five. The big left hander was nasty and dominating, and looks to be in mid-season form already. Ryu’s change-up is like pure gold, and I am very certain that it is being used as currency in several third world countries right now.
The Dodgers scored once in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, and six runs in the seventh. The scorage onslaught in the seventh frame allowed Puig to bat twice, as he was able to collect his second hit of the inning after the Dodgers batted around in that inning. He led off that inning with a hit. The 22 year old outfielder also made a great running catch on a shallow liner in the fourth inning when he had just came in to replace Crawford.
Crawford went 1 for 2 and played three innings in left field before coming out for Puig. He is expected to be in the opening day lineup and the lead-off hitter.
The game started off shaky for Ryu though. In the top of the first Ryu allowed a walk, to Alejandro De Aza, and then after two grounders advanced him to third, he scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the second, Tyler Flowers would lead off with a double. That was the only hit Ryu would allow Flowers would eventually score on a Dewayne Wise sacrifice fly.

The White Sox would plate two more runs in the top of the eighth inning against J.P. Howell, who came into the game to relieve Ryu. The seventh inning was hilarious, as the White Sox were flustering and bumbling all over the field. The Pale Hose committed four errors in the game. Brandon Leauge pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the game for the Boys in Blue.
There was a last minute scratch of Juan Uribe announced just before the game with no explanation. It was quite odd. For a while it was unknown as to Uribe’s fate. It caused premature celebrations from some Dodger fans who were hoping that he was released. I’m sorry to rain on everyone’s parade, but Uribe had a tight right hamstring. He is listed as day-to-day. Alfredo Amezaga replaced the portly infielder at third base.
The Dodgers improve to 11-15-3 in Cactus League play. We are getting closer to opening day as each day passes. Another round of cuts looms on the Dodger’s horizon. Which player or players are the next to get the axe?
The Dodgers will travel to Phoenix Municipal Stadium to take on the Oakland A’s at 1:05 PM tomorrow afternoon. Josh Beckett will be on the mound for the Dodgers. Oakland will counter with A.J. Griffin. Have a great Saturday night guys!
