The Puig-less Dodgers will take on the Colorado Rockies tonight without their top spring hitter. The Dodgers announced earlier today that they optioned Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig to double-A Chattanooga. Puig was hitting .526 this spring with the Dodgers. The Dodgers will also be without shortstop Dee Gordon who was optioned down to triple-A Albuquerque this afternoon, according to the club.

Jon Garland vs. Aaron Harang

The Dodgers will be using what will probably be the opening day lineup. I still don’t understand why Juan Uribe is hitting ahead of A.J. Ellis. Actually, I can’t understand why Uribe is hitting ahead of the pitcher, or anyone for that matter. Can somebody explain this to me? Seeing A.J. being buried at the bottom of the lineup for another season is going to be annoying enough. But watching Uribe making outs in front of AJ is going to be very irritating. Well, we better get used to it I guess.

The pitching match-up will see Dodger right hander, The Big Show Aaron Harang, countering old friend Jon Garland. That’s right our buddy, Garland is back. Apparently Seattle released him, and Colorado took advantage and signed the veteran right hander earlier this week. Garland pitched with the Dodgers for two stints. He pitched six games for the club back in 2009, and then was re-acquired in 2011, where he pitched nine games before having to have season ending reconstructive surgery on his shoulder. If you remember, the Dodgers faced Garland back on March 9 when he was wearing a Seattle uniform. Guess who started against him in that game? You got it, Aaron Harang. The Dodgers won that game 3-2.

The Dodgers are considering trading Harang since they have too many starting pitchers. I am sure scouts from other teams will be in the stands tonight at Camelback. This very well could be Harang’s last start in Blue, if the Dodgers trade him before the season starts on Monday.

The game will be on tonight at 7:05 PM and you can catch the game televised on KCAL 9. This will be the final game at Camelback Ranch this year. The Dodgers have one more game in Arizona tomorrow afternoon before traveling back to Southern California on Thursday night to begin the Freeway Series. Go Blue.
