Dodgers Recall Fedex, Option Sellers
By Scott Andes

Most Baseball teams only carry two catchers on their respective rosters, however the Dodgers will now be carrying three backstops, after they called up Tim Federowicz from Albuquerque earlier this afternoon. The Dodgers optioned infielder Justin Sellers back to Albuquerque to make room on the roster for Fedex. With the Dodgers in desperate need for more offense on the bench, they made a special overnight priority delivery request for a third catcher.

Fedex was 0 for 5 in three games with the Dodgers earlier this season, but has spent the majority of the season down in Albuquerque despite the Dodgers promising him during spring training that he would be A.J. Ellis’s backup this season. Fedex has been raking it down in Albuquerque. Fedex was hitting .531 down at Albuquerque. In 13 games, he was 26 for 49 in 59 plate appearances with the Isotopes. Fedex has hit seven home runs and driven in 21 runs down in the super hitting friendly environment of the pacific Coast League. I know it’s Albuquerque, but yeesh.

Justin Sellers had originally made the roster to play shortstop while Hanley Ramirez was injured. But Sellers has struggled greatly at the plate, despite playing good defense. Sellers is hitting .191 (13 for 68) with the Dodgers in 76 plate appearances. He has hit one home run, and has walked five times, while whiffing 19. Sellers is a career .200 hitter in the majors in 265 plate appearances.
The Dodgers now have three catchers on their roster. Tim Federowicz, and Ramon Hernandez will both backup A.J. Ellis.
