Dodgers Win Streak Comes to Screeching Halt Thanks to Disastrous 16-1 Blowout

was because of the hot Los Angeles night. Either way, Capuano was a hot mess on Friday night as the Dodgers fell to Philadelphia in a 16-1 blowout ending their six game winning streak.

Michael Young promptly leads off the top of the first with a single up the middle against Chris Capuano. Then Chase Utley follows with a single up the middle as well. Capuano walks Jimmy Rollins, and just like that the bases are loaded for the Phillies with nobody out. Domonic Brown grounds in to a force, and Young scores on the play. For some reason Hanley doesn’t even try to throw to Capuano at first for the double play. Delmon Young singles for the third Philadelphia hit of the inning, and the Phils take a 2-0 lead as Utley scores. John Mayberry grounds in to a force out, and once again Hanley can’t turn the double play in time. Ben Revere singles past a diving Hanley, and the Phils add a third run on the board as Brown scores. Carlos Ruiz strikes out to mercifully end the disastrous inning.

John Lannan retires Mark Ellis and Yasiel Puig on ground outs, and Adrian Gonzalez flies out as the Dodgers go down in order in the home half of the first.

The second inning starts off bad as well as John Lannan proceeds to bloop a single to center in front of Matt Kemp. The Dodgers finally turn the elusive double play on a grounder by Young. Chase Utley doubles to center field for his second hit off Capuano in as many innings. More hits and runs… Utley scores on a Rollins single. Then Adrian Gonzalez makes a very bad error on a little grounder by Brown. Young doubles, and two more runs scores. 6-0 Philadelphia. Mayberry flies out, but not before three more runs score.

Hanley and Matt Kemp both fly out in the bottom of the second. Andre Ethier grounds out, and the Dodgers once again go down 1-2-3.

Capuano finally pitches a good inning in the third while striking out Revere and Lannan, but it may be too little too late.

Dodgers make out to end the frame.

Michael Young homers to lead off the fourth, and the Phillies now lead 7-0 in a blowout. Rollins singles with one out. Brown strikes out, and that will be Capuano’s last batter of the night. Peter Moylan is brought in to relieve Cappy, and he induces a fly out from Delmon Young for the third out.

Chris Capuano pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed 7 runs on 10 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk on 72 pitches.

Puig leads off the bottom of the fourth with a long single off the right field wall. Gonzalez of course grounds in to a double play, and Hanley grounds out to end the inning.

Ruiz doubles in the top of the fifth with two outs when Puig’s diving attempt comes up fruitless. John Lannan drives in another Philadelphia run on a single, but he is out at second on a FedEx throw. The run comes in before the final out, and the Phillies lead 8-0.

Michael Young singles in the top of the sixth, and that’s the Phillies 13th hit. Utley walks, and Brown singles as the ninth Philadelphia run comes home. Utley scores on a force out hit in to by Young. Then Mayberry homers to left field for good measure, and the Phillies are now up 12-0. Matt Guerrier will come in to replace Moylan. Revere grounds out, but not before the Phillies add four more to the fire.

Puig draws a two-out walk in the bottom of the sixth. Scott Van Slyke, who was just activated today, will pinch-hit for Gonzalez. Van Slyke doubles to the gap, and Puig scores the first and only Dodger run of the game as he motors home. Ramirez singles to right, but Van Slyke foolishly tries to come home on the play and is easily thrown out. You never want to make the third out of a 12-1 game at home plate, but at this point it really doesn’t matter.

John Lannan goes 3-for-4 as he singles to right field with one out in the seventh. Young also singles. Kevin Frandsen grounds in to a force out. John McDonald singles, and Lannan brings in Philadelphia’s 13th run. Guerrier walks Brown to load up the bases with two outs. Young singles up the middle, his third hit, and two more runs score. Mayberry walks to load up the bases once again. Revere flies out to end the inning.

The Dodgers go down 1-2-3 in the seventh.

Here comes Brandon League to pitch the eighth. He promptly hits Carlos Ruiz with a pitch. Laynce Nix grounds out, and Ruiz moves to second. With Young batting, the obligatory wild pitch allows Ruiz to third. Young grounds out, and another run scores.

Phillippe Aumont, a right-hander, will come out of the Philadelphia bullpen for the bottom of the eighth. Mark Ellis draws a two-out walk, but that’s all the Dodgers can muster.

John Lannan pitched 7 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk on 98 pitches.

It’s finally the ninth inning, and Skip Schumaker will make his second relief appearance for the Dodgers. Brown and Young both fly out. Mayberry draws a walk. Skip is mixing his pitches nicely, and he even threw a decent curveball. Revere doubles to the gap. Ruiz walks to load the bases. Humberto Quintero strikes out swinging on a Schumaker changeup! Skip is the only Dodger pitcher to not allow a run tonight. He has a 0.00 ERA over two innings of work.

Joe Savery will pitch the bottom of the ninth for Philadelphia. Van Slyke walks. Schumaker, batting for himself, grounds in to a force out. Kemp walks. Ethier flies out. Uribe strikes out, and the torture is finally over.

Luckily both the D-backs and the Giants also lost earlier in the night, but the Dodgers fall to 36-43 after the worst game of the year.

Tomorrow won’t get any easier for the Dodgers as Cliff Lee goes to the mound against Hyun-jin Ryu. Let’s all forget this ugly game, Dodger fans. Let’s start a new winning streak tomorrow!
