Dodgers Activate Kemp, Option Van Slyke
By Scott Andes

The Dodgers have reinstated center fielder Matt Kemp from the 15-day disabled list, and in order to clear room for Bison’s arrival they have optioned Scott Van Slyke to Albuquerque. The team announced this morning before the Dodgers play game three of their three game series against the Washington Nationals.

Kemp missed nine games because of an irritated AC joint in his shoulder. The Dodgers also announced that Kemp may need an additional shoulder surgery in the offseason to do some cleanup repair. Is Kemp risking more injury by playing? With Kemp being activated today, he is in the starting lineup and batting sixth. With Carl Crawford starting in left field today, that means the Dodgers have Kemp, Crawford, Hanley Ramirez, and Andre Ethier all in the starting lineup at the same time for the first time this season. As a result, Yasiel Puig gets a day off to rest, as Ethier starts in right field instead.
Kemp missed 24 games earlier this year because of another strained hamstring. Kemp is batting .254 with four home runs this season in 61 games, and 246 plate appearances.
