Should the Dodgers Already Be Poppin’ Champagne?

The gossip sites were a buzzing as reports flew in that a trio of Dodger players were seen clubbing in South Miami in the wee hours of Monday morning alongside LeBron James. TMZ reported that Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp, and Carl Crawford met up with LeBron at LIV Nightclub in Miami for some expensive partying.

Obviously the Dodger buddies brushed off their loss to the Phillies on Sunday quickly as they proceeded to partake in

some bubbly and other adult beverages around 1 a.m. Miami time.

TMZ claims a source told them that “the 4-some dropped more than $20,000 on Ciroc, Moet, Patron, Belvedere, and fancy champagne.”

Evidently the disabled Matt Kemp was partying extra hard according to these same sources. Shouldn’t Kemp be elevating that sprained ankle back at the hotel? Seems to me that some heavy drinking would impair the outfielder and perhaps cause him to stumble on that injured ankle? Now I don’t know exactly how much each drank, but $20,000 worth of booze isn’t just a glass of bubbly or two.

Now despite the fact that they had a game just 15 hours removed from their supposed arrival to the club, let’s hope they got some sleep. Although the Dodgers did phone in the first game versus the Marlins on Monday afternoon and lost 6-2. Crawford had one hit and a walk, but Puig went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Kemp was on the bench per usual.

Yasiel Puig also had a moment with the media on Monday, but I tend to disregard most of those stories since they seem to blow things out of proportion and take his personality out of context.

I have no problem with adults having some fun, heck I’d love to check out the Miami night scene one day. Yet it kind of makes me concerned that the Dodgers are getting a little too confident. After all, the division has yet to be clinched and there is still 38 games remaining.

The Dodgers should wait to pop the champagne when they win the National League West.

What do you think about the TMZ story? Should the Dodgers calm down on the partying?
