Kershaw, Nolasco, Or Greinke? Who’s Your Dodger Pitcher Of August?

if you did pick Kersh, we would all understand and probably just shake our heads in an affirmative manner. Because you know, it’s Clayton Kershaw. Although there are other guys pitching just as well, if not better than Kershaw. The Dodgers wouldn’t be where they are without their excellent pitching. The Dodgers have had just that throughout their prolific run to the top of the standings. The Boys in Blue have had dominant starting pitching coming from more than just Clayton Kershaw. Of course Kershaw has been his excellent self as usual. Despite low run support, Kershaw should be well on his way to winning his second Cy Young award.

The Dodgers have also been getting great pitching from other sources as well. The question is, if you have to give the award for Dodger pitcher of the month of August, who do you choose? Kershaw, Ricky Nolasco, or Zack Greinke. All have been awesome, and I’m not even talking about the soundness of Hyun-jin Ryu. So who’s your favorite?

Kershaw was 3-2 with a 1.01 ERA in August. Yes you are reading that correctly. Kershaw allowed just six runs in 35 frames last month. He didn’t give up a single long ball, and posted a miniscule 0.98 WHIP. Nothing new right? It’s Clayton Kershaw. Opposing batters hit only .192 against him in the month of August. Kershaw leads the universe in most pitching categories. Kersh is 14-8 with a 1.89 ERA and 201 whiffs. Kershaw leads the league in ERA, BAA, WHIP, and lowest h/9 rate.

But his teammates may be surpassing him with their pitching prowess. Ricky Nolasco has been blazing hot. Nolasco has won six straight decisions and was 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA in August. He posted a 0.88 WHIP and allowed a .200 average against during last month. Nolasco is now 6-1 with a 2.20 ERA with the Dodgers in ten starts, and overall he is 11-9 with a 3.28 ERA and 140 whiffs to go along with just 40 walks. Nolasco allowed just six walks over his last six starts.

Perhaps though, your choice should be right hander Zack Greinke. It would be a fine choice as you could make a case that he has been the most dominant of all. Greinke posted a 5-0 record, and a 1.24 ERA in August, and limited batters to a .211 average. He allowed just five earned runs all month, and has walked ten in his last seven starts. His WHIP for August was 0.98. Overall Greinke is 14-3 with a 2.78 ERA and 119 whiffs. Even more impressive about Greinke is not so much what he’s done with his pitching arm, but what he’s done with the bat. What we didn’t know before the Dodgers signed our feathered friend was that he’s a very good hitter. Greinke is batting .347 (17 for 49) with two doubles, four runs driven in, two stolen bases, and six walks. Greinke is one of the top hitting pitchers in the league, which makes him even more dangerous.

The Dodgers have one of the strongest pitching staffs in the National League, and those three mentioned above are largely responsible. If you had to pick one pitcher however, one guy. Just one. Who would you pick, and why? Who’s the Dodger pitcher of August? I can’t decide. They’re all soooooooo good. They all deserve recognition.
