Oops, I meant the Dodgers. Although last night for a while, it was true. Last night our lovable portly third sacker Juan Uribe’s three heroic home runs helped the Dodgers topple the Snakes 8-1 and inch closer to their expected, and much anticipated NL West division crown. Uribe’ three home runs were the first by a Dodger third baseman, and the first three home run game by a Dodger since Andre Ethier accomplished the feat back in 2009. It was a wonderful scene watching what once was one of the most maligned Dodgers over the last two seasons, turn into one of the most beloved Dodgers in 2013. Uribe’s celebrations in the dugout were classic Uribe. We marveled as we watched Uribe slam his three home runs, suing his trademarked and unique backswing as he extends his hands in front of his face on his follow through. We saw Uribe dancing and being fed a banana in the dugout from Hanley. Apparently because they’ve been calling Uribe a monkey. But we all know it’s not bananas that give Uribe his power, but those tasty pastries called empanadas.
Can Volquez’s hat remain sideays?-Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports
Of course it wasn’t all Uribe, it was another team effort that snapped the Dodgers out of a four game losing streak. Ethier, Gonzalez, and Hanley all went deep as well, and Ricky Nolasco turned in another dominating performance.
The Dodgers are going to need all the Uribe’s they can find if they’re going to beat the Snakes and tonight’s unfavorable pitching match-up. The Dodgers will face and have to beat constant nemesis Trevor Cahill.
Cahill has been a thorn in the Dodger’s side for the last couple of seasons now, and he has never lost to the Dodgers. Ever. The 25 year old right hander has had a down year, but somehow he still beats the Dodgers every time he faces them. For some unknown reason to all of us, the Dodgers have never been able to hit this guy. Cahill’s last start saw him go five frames, and allow two runs on six hits in earning his sixth win. This season, Cahill is 6-10 with a 4.35 ERA. Cahilll has never been a big strikeout guy, (6.4 K/9), but is a ground ball expert.
Not this guy again-Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports
Cahill has never lost to the Dodgers. This season, he has faced the Dodgers twice, with a win and a no-decision. He threw 7.1 shutout innings against the Dodgers in a star back in April, which saw the Dbacks win 1-0 on a walk-off hit in the ninth. The no-decision outing in May, still saw Cahill limit the Dodgers to just two runs across seven frames.
And that’s what he does. It seems his bland style of ground ball pitching fits right into the Dodger’s penchant for making boring routine outs. We should see a plethora of weak grounders tonight. Be prepared. The numbers back this up. Cahill is 3-0 at Dodgers Stadium with a 2.25 ERA in four starts. Cahill has only allowed six earned runs at Dodger Stadium, and is 5-0 overall with a 2.10 ERA in eight starts against the Dodgers. Although the Dodgers do have three players batting over .400 against Cahill. (Gonzalez, Punto, and A.J.)

The Dodgers will counter with sideways hat guy Edinson Volquez. The right hander made his first start for the Dodgers last week at Coors Field in Colorado, and well as you can imagine, it didn’t go very well. Although I suppose it could have gone worse. Volquez allowed four earned runs on six hits in four frames. But he didn’t walk anyone, and whiffed four. Oh he still lost, and he’s still terrible, but maybe not as terrible as we had first thought? I guess we’ll have our answer tonight when he makes his first Dodger start at sea level. Volquez has faced the Snakes once this season and beat them back on May 5. In his career, Volquez is 2-2 with a 3.78 ERA with 48 whiffs in eight starts versus the Snakes. Just watch out for Paul Goldschmidt who is batting .455 off of Volquez. Will his hat stay sideways?

It seems that Uribe’s power has vanquished the evil Hello Kitty curse for now. But that curse is diabolically clever, and could resurface at any time. I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of the Hello Kitty curse. If you know what’s up, you will burn those HK bobble heads. Burn them quickly, before it’s too late!
Anyways, the Dodgers are looking to keep running down the clock. There is only 19 game left to play, and the Dodgers have a 12 game lead over the Dbacks in the NL West. The magic number is 8 for the Dodger’s to clinch the West. If the Dodgers can get a victory tonight, then that number would diwndle to six. It could happen at the end of this home stand. We’re all just waiting for it. Soon enough guys. I don’t know about you, but I am ready for the playoffs.
