Dodgers Start Last Home Series of the Season with a 15-Hit Parade!

Who remembers the last time Dodger’s starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw got this much run support? Can’t think of the last time he was given a 1- run lead? Someone please refresh my memory because it has been a long time since he got good run support.

Kershaw got his support early in the first inning with center fielder Matt Kemp grounding into a force play and moved to third on first baseman Adrian Gonzalez’s long single to into the gap between center and right. Third baseman Juan Uribe hits a double that brought in Kemp from third and the slow running Gonzalez from first to make it 2-0. Gonzalez was able to score on the Colorado Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon’s bobble. Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis hits a single past the shortstop into left field scoring Uribe from second on a bad throw to the plate with Ellis advancing to second on the play to make it 3-0. Second baseman Mark Ellis follows suit and singles up the middle to score A.J. on a bad throw from Blackmon. Rockies starter Collin McHugh couldn’t last five innings.

In the 3rd inning, Gonzalez hits a home run to right to make it 5-0. It was his 22nd home run of the season and his 100th RBI for the year. In the fourth inning, left fielder Carl Crawford hits a rare home run that brought in Kershaw and Puig to make the score 8-0. It was Crawford’s 6th home run of the season. A.J. Ellis contributed again with a two run shot to center in the 5th inning making the score, 10-0. Mark Ellis brought in the final run of the game in the 6th inning to make it 11-0.

Relievers Carlos Marmol, Chris Capuano and even Brandon League got into the game and threw scoreless innings and gave up only one hit. The whole team were into the game tonight. That is what I like about baseball when the whole team gets into the game like tonight. Whether you play or not.

Kershaw threw six scoreless innings with eight strike outs and gave up four hits and no walks, strengthening his case for the Cy Young award. Kershaw making his last start of the regular season was dominating tonight, helping his chances of winning the Cy Young award for the National League. I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than Kershaw does. You could say Matt Harvey had a good season, but Kershaw had a way better season than Harvey did. Kershaw has helped the Dodgers keeping it steady in the starting rotation when it almost went down like flies with injuries earlier in the season.

Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig had to leave the game in the top of the 6th inning after fouling a ball off his foot and was replaced in right field. Hopefully, his foot heals in time for the playoffs. Puig is day to day after his x-rays came back negative.

Zack Greinke (15-3) with a 2.67 ERA will be taking the hill tomorrow against Rockie’s pitcher Juan Nicasio (8-9) with a 5.32 ERA. Greinke could tie Kershaw for most victories among Dodgers starters. Greinke is making his last start before the postseason. The game will be at 6:10 pm PST on Prime Ticket tomorrow night. GO BLUE!
