Empanada Heroics Return To Dodger Stadium, Dodgers Set To Resign Juan Uribe

Dodger fans across the globe are breathing a collective sigh of relief as Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Dodgers are set to resign third baseman Juan Uribe. *Update*, according to Buster Olney, the deal is for 15 million.

As you know already the Dodgers had made an offer to Uribe but had yet to hear back from him. The Marlins, and Rays were two of the many teams that were vetting Uribe, who had yet to respond to the Dodgers offer. Since the Dodgers hadn’t heard from Uribe, they were set to move on, and their backup plan was frightening to say the least. The rest of the free agent market isn’t any better. and the Dodger’s farm system is barren of any third base prospects.

That backup plan was old and busted Michael Young returning as an everyday third baseman. However the resigning of Uribe saves us all from the nightmare of an old and declining bum at the hot corner. Although reports are surfacing the Dodgers could retain Young as a bench piece.

Thank god that won’t be happening. Nothing is official yet, and there has been no official statement from the club, but Rosenthal is reporting that the length of the deal is for two years. Uribe was reportedly seeking a three-year contract, and the Dodgers had initially refused to give him that long of a deal.

Thank the lordy Uribe appears to be returning. The Dodgers signed the lovable portly empanada consuming third sacker in the winter of 2010. Uribe’s original contract was a three-year deal that expired at the end of the 2013 season.

After having two miserable seasons, Uribe emerged as one of the most clutch performers on the team. His solid defense and clutch power bat provided the Dodgers with much needed stability at third base. Of course nobody will ever forget his incredible series clinching home run in game 4 of the NL division series to beat the braves, and send the Dodgers to the NLCS. Uribe batted .278 with 12 home runs and 50 runs driven in while playing in 132 games in 2013.

We’ll have more details once the signing becomes official. Here’s to another exciting season of empanada heroics in 2014.
