Yankees Sign Tanaka, Let’s All Move On With Our Lives

Don’t cry Dodger fans, but Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Yankees have signed Masahiro Tanaka. The soap opera is finally over and we can all move on with our lives now. Masahiro Tanaka has signed with the Yankees, according to Ken Rosenthal. The reports are indicating that Tanaka’s deal is a seven-year 155 million dollar contract that is one of the most expensive for a right handed pitcher in MLB history, on par with other mega deals like the ones for Felix Hernandez, and C.C. Sabathia.

According to Joel Sherman, Tanaka will earn 22 million dollars every year of the contract except for the final season in which he will earn 23 million dollars. Rosenthal reports there is an opt out clause after the fourth year.
The Yankees will still have to pay the 20 million dollar posting fee to Tanaka’s old team, the Rakuten Golden Eagles. Several clubs including the Dodgers had made offers to Tanaka, but the Yankees apparently outbid the entire pack.
Tanaka the 25-year-old Japanese right hander is considered to be the top pitcher on the market. Tanaka posted an undefeated season with the Eagles last year going 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 212 innings. The only game Tanaka lost was game 6 of the Japan series. Scouting reports indicate how good he is. The coveted right hander is probably worth the coin.

While the Yankees are now doomed to go way over the luxury tax threshold with the Tanaka signing, the Dodgers just completed their own massive deal with their star ace Clayton Kershaw. This shouldn’t interfere with any of the Dodger’s plans going forward. Honestly, I don’t really care about Tanaka, and him going to the Yankees doesn’t really bother me. Look at it this way, he didn’t sign with an NL team, and the Dodgers don’t even play the Yankees in 2014. The only way we would have to see Tanaka in 2014 is if the Dodgers and Yankees both play each other in the World Series. So don’t fret.
I am sure a lot of Dodger fans are pretty pissed off about this. But you shouldn’t be. Whatever, let the Yankees have Tanaka. We still have Kershaw, and Greinke, and Ryu, and Puig, and Hanley, and the rest of the boys. The Dodgers are still one of the top teams to beat in the National League, and they still have the best roster in the NL West. So there is no need for Dodger fans to be upset in the slightest. Now we can all move on with our lives here. The Tanaka saga is over.
