Dodgers Announce 25-Man Roster For Sydney Series

The Dodgers have announced their 25-man roster for the opening series in Sydney, Australia. Most of the moves were predictable, that we already knew were coming. But one very stupid move will undoubtedly come back to haunt them.

First of all, Matt Kemp, Chad Billingsley, and Josh Beckett, were all placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to March 19th. No surprise there. Pitcher Zach Lee, infielder Miguel Rojas, and outfielder Joc Pederson were all reassigned. And now here is the kicker. The crème de le crème of stupidity. Backup catcher Tim Federowicz was optioned to make room for Drew Butera. Yup, that’s right, the Dodgers optioned Fedex all so they could keep a catcher who can’t even hit his weight.

So what’s Fedex supposed to do now? Just pack up and go to Albuquerque? So ridiculous, all so the Dodgers can keep a guy who can’t hit above the Mendoza line. It’s seriously Idiotic. Do the Dodgers not realize that nobody in their right mind would claim Butera? The guy would most certainly clear waivers, and then they would be able to keep him and not have to send poor Fedex back down to Albuquerque. it’s all because Butera is out of options.

Well that’s a discussion for another day, and believe me I’ll have more on the stupid decision to keep Butera over Fedex. For now, check out the rest of the roster. I’m glad Alexander Guerrero made the roster, so at least there’s that.

I’m sure you’ll notice that Rule V draft guy Seth Rosin has made the roster, for now at least. Flamethrower Jose Dominguez made it as well. Pitchers Zack Greinke, Dan Haren, and Brandon League have been placed on the exempt list, and outfielder Carl Crawford was placed on the paternity list. Here’s the rest of the roster.
