Mark is back with another update on the Quakes. On Thursday night they lost a heart-breaker to Modesto, as Lindsey Caughel made his season debut for Rancho. The Quakes are now 4-5 on the season. Brian Wilson is scheduled to make his final rehab start for Rancho on Wednesday before rejoining the Dodgers. Check in with us for more updates from Rancho.

Rancho Cucamonga’s starter Lindsey Caughel made his first start of the season Thursday Evening against the Modesto Nuts.  The 23rd round draft selection of the Dodgers came out of Stetson University in 2012.  Caughel started 19 games for the Quakes last year, appearing in 116 innings with 112 strikeouts and a 4.01 earned run average.

Caughel struggled through seven innings giving up four runs on just eight hits.  Two runs came in the first inning, but Caughel showed some toughness and battled through to the seventh inning.  He gave up a two-run home run to Nuts’ Will Swanner in the sixth inning.

Designated hitter Pratt Maynard was the hitting hero for the Quakes Thursday night.  Maynard had two RBI doubles, tallying one in the fourth inning that put the Quakes on the board at 2-1, and then again in the sixth driving home Steven Proscia.  He scored when Brandon Dixon drove a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Quakes a 5-2 lead.

With reliever Luis Meza (3.60) on the mound in the bottom half of the ninth inning and the Quakes ahead 5-4, the Nuts scored two runs with two outs to steal the victory.  Two down in the inning and runners at first and second, Chris Jacobs let a hard grounder get by him to score Wilson Soriano from second to tie up the game.  On the very next pitch, Sean Dwyer rocketed the ball over center fielder Rob Garvey’s head to seal the win for the Nuts.

With the “Voice of the Quakes” Mike Lindskog calling the play- by- play on Fox Sports AM 1350, the Quakes will send Fabio Martinez against Modesto for Saturday’s matchup, and Chris Anderson will take the mound on Sunday’s series finale.
