Ryu Heads To The DL With Glute/Hip Strain

The injuries keep mounting for the Dodger’s pitching staff. Left handed starter Hyun-jin Ryu has been placed on the 15-day DL with what has been called a strained right hip. It was originally diagnosed as a strained right glute muscle. Hip? Glute? I don’t know. It all sounds like a huge pain in the butt to me. So the Dodgers will have Kevin Correia start in his place on Tuesday night. Ryu is not expected to be out for long, but will be re-evaluated in a few days from now.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers have recalled right handed reliever Pedro Baez from Albuquerque.

Ryu injured himself in the sixth inning of his start against Atlanta on Wednesday night’s 3-2 loss at Turner Field. Ryu pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits and whiffed seven. He was removed after making a pitch and grabbing at his thigh.

Ryu was pitching like an ace all season. He has posted a 13-6 record with a 3.28 ERA in 23 starts. He has whiffed 122 and walked just 27 in 137.1 innings of work. This is Ryu’s second season with the Dodgers since he signed a six year 36 million dollar deal before last season.
