Scott Van Slyke Owns Wade Miley

I have never seen a major league hitter own a major league pitcher the way Dodger’s outfielder/first baseman Scott Van Slyke owns Arizona left hander Wade Miley. Some hitters simply just have certain pitcher’s numbers. But this is nothing short of incredible. It’s ownage at it’s finest.

Van Slyke continued his ownage of Miley during the Dodger’s 3-1 victory over the Snakes on Wednesday night. He hit his fourth home run of the season against Miley on Wednesday, and fifth overall. It was a solo blast into the left field seats. Check it out below.

Van Slyke is the Dodger’s lone right handed power bat off the bench. He doesn’t play often, but manager Don Mattingly normally calls upon Van Slyke to hit against tough left handed pitchers. Van Slyke is batting .270 with eight home runs and an OPS of 1.076 against left handed pitchers this season. So Mattingly normally puts him in the starting lineup when he uses his lefty mashing lineup.

Miley has faced the Dodgers five times this season. Just that itself is unheard of these days. Miley is 0-4 with a 5.14 ERA and a no-decision against the Dodgers this season. Van Slyke’s dominance over Miley is unbelievable.

Van Slyke is batting .444 (8 for 18) with three doubles, five home runs and a 1.968 OPS against Miley in his career. This season Van Slyke has hit four home runs against the 27-year old southpaw. Van Slyke is batting .636 (7 for 11) against Miley in 2014 with four home runs, five runs driven in, and three doubles. His OPS against Miley this season is an out of this world 2.000. I don’t think we’ll ever see a hitter dominate a pitcher like this ever again in our lifetime. It goes without saying that Van Slyke should be in the lineup every single time the Dodgers face Miley. It’s worth noting.

Overall the bearded slugger is batting .267 (46 for 172) with 10 home runs, 21 runs batted in, and an .895 OPS in 204 plate appearances. Van Slyke has played in 80 games for the Dodgers this year, splitting time between the outfield and first base.

Van Slyke had to leave the game Wednesday night in the bottom of the fourth inning after suffering a mild sprained ankle. He injured it running after a Jordan Pacheco single to left. He’s listed as day-to-day.
