Will Josh Byrnes Replace Logan White As Scouting Director?

Jon Heyman reported the news this morning that longtime Dodger’s scouting director Logan White has left the Dodger’s front office to take a job with the San Diego Padres, as the Dodgers continue to play musical chairs with their front office executives. White has been with the Dodgers since 2002 and had been a vital piece of the Dodger’s scouting department over the last decade.

We still don’t know what job White will be taking, but we do know that he had interviewed for the Padre’s GM position, which ended up going to A.J. Preller.

The question is will Josh Byrnes replace White as scouting director? Or will he replace the recently departed De Jon Watson? Oh and the Dodgers still don’t have a general manager either. The rumors are swirling that Byrnes will replace somebody in the Dodger’s front office. But who?

So to recap, in the last two weeks the Dodgers have moved their GM into a new role, lost two important pieces of their front office and hired a new President of Baseball Operations. The Dodgers are sweeping away the last remnants of the loser McCourt era. Things sure do change quickly.

This can’t be unexpected. We all remember when Fox purchased the club from the O’Malleys, they fired anyone and everyone within sight. They came in and quickly cleaned house. Guggenheim is doing the same thing, although they waited a couple of years before doing it. It is common for new ownership to want to bring in their own people.

Combine the new ownership with the Dodger’s two consecutive playoff failures, which includes this season’s playoff tankfest in the first round and you have a club that is going to make some changes.

I actually welcome this. It sucks losing White, but sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. It is becoming quite clear that unless the Dodgers start making some drastic changes then they may never make another World Series within our lifetimes. It’s time to bring some new blood.

It’s also time for the Dodgers to start emulating what the Giants are doing. They have figured out the right formula for success. No more bloated payrolls and high priced salaries to injury prone players who choke in the postseason.

Expect more changes to happen within the coming weeks.
