Zaidi Suggests A Big Run For Moncada

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

If you haven’t seen the depth charts over at fangraphs, you should take a look. You’ll see “Juan Uribe” and “Justin Turner“. One is going to be 37 and a free agent after 2015, and Don Mattingly has said about the latter that that he doesn’t see him as an everyday type of player and that his body isn’t meant to play everyday. Take a look at the MLBTR free agents for 2016, and you see maybe 37 year old Adrian Beltre as a solution long term? That’s the best it has to offer, so given that there isn’t any solution in house, in order to fill the 3b hole for the future, there will have to be some type of trade or interesting international signing. Here’s a primer on Yoan Moncada and why he’d be perfect for the Dodgers.

Basically I wouldn’t be shocked if they made a huge run at the best international talent on the market this offseason. And given what Farhan said on MLB Network Radio today to Jim Bowden, the Dodgers are primed for a big run at a potential “franchise talent“.

"“Moncada we’ve scouted extensively … We have the checkbook, young elite talent is the most valuable asset to have… This is probably going to be one of those investments where you don’t want to leave any stone unturned"

Woof.

Zaidi is famous for misdirecting the media, saying Dee Gordon is our “all star 2b” last month, and saying good things about Matt Kemp right before he traded them both. But that’s in accordance to this report that came out yesterday

I dunno, elite young talent that can play all over the infield is something worth looking into. Farhan Zaidi, he of the Yoenis Cespedes signing apparently thinks many good things about Yoan, and that makes me think many good things about Yoan. Very respected people are high on the this particular player. The international restrictions, OFAC, and his unique defection are prolonging this process, but it appears like there will be a resolution relatively soon, to one of the most interesting Cuban prospects in a generation, and the Dodgers might end up with him.
