Dodgers Reach Agreement With Jansen, Nicasio, Heisey, and Turner

The Dodgers announced on Friday afternoon that they have avoided arbitration by reaching agreement with their remaining four players that previously had filed for salary arbitration. The club released the final salary figures for outfielder Chris Heisey, infielder Justin Turner, and pitchers Kenley Jansen, and Juan Nicasio. This means that the Dodgers will have no arbitration hearings in 2015. The Dodgers have not had an arbitration hearing since 2007.

The club reached agreement with Kenley on a one-year 7.425 million dollar agreement. Stacie had predicted that Kenley and his beautiful cutter were worth around 8 million dollars. She was close. Kenley is in the second year of arbitration, due to his 4.073 years of MLB service time. He is not eligible for free agency until 2017.

Kenley has been one of the most underrated closers in all of Baseball. He saved 44 games last season for the Dodgers, while posting a 2.76 ERA and whiffing 101 batters in 68 games.

The Dodgers then reached agreement with infielder Justin Turner. Redturn and the Dodgers agreed to a one-year 2.5 million dollar contract. I wrote earlier about how awesome Turner was for the Dodgers in 2014. He batted .340 with seven home runs, and an .897 OPS in 322 plate appearances. Turner also played all four infield positions in 109 games. Turner has 4.045 years of MLB service time.

The Dodgers then reached agreement with outfielder Chris Heisey. The Dodgers acquired the 30-year old from the Reds earlier this offseason. Heisey batted .222 with eight home runs and 22 runs batted in and 34 runs scored in 299 plate appearances for the Reds last season.

The Dodgers agreed to terms with Heisey on a one-year 2.16 million dollar deal. Heisey is a second year arbitration player and can’t file for free agency until 2017.

Finally the Dodgers came to terms with pitcher Juan Nicasio. The Dodgers acquired the 28-year old right hander from Colorado earlier this winter.

The Dodgers settled with Nicasio on a one-year 2.3 million dollar contract.

Nicasio split time between the bullpen and the starting rotation last season in Colorado. He posted a 6-6 record, and a 5.38 ERA in 33 games. He started 14 of those games, and 6.1 strikeout per nine rate, with a 3.0 walks per nine rate in 93.2 innings pitched.

Nicasio is in the first year of salary arbitration and will not be eligible to file for free agency until 2018.
