Dodgers Add Minor League Outfielder Travis Witherspoon
By Scott Andes

The Dodgers have signed minor league outfielder Travis Witherspoon. Matt Eddy tweeted the acquisition on Friday afternoon. Witherspoon was a twelfth round pick of the Angels back in the 2009 amateur draft.
#Dodgers sign Travis Witherspoon, a rangy CF with intriguing power/speed potential who has played in #Angels and #Mariners systems.

Witherspoon had been in the Angel’s farm system for most of his career, until last season when he was with the Mariner’s single-A affiliate High Desert Mavericks of the California League. Eddy describes the 25-year old outfielder as rangy with intriguing power and speed.

The right handed hitting outfielder played in 99 games for High Desert last year, slashing .252/.338/.448 while posting a .706 OPS in 407 plate appearances. He slugged 15 home runs, drove in 44 runs and stole 25 bases. Witherspoon has stolen as many as 46 bases in the minor leagues, and has 165 career minor league steals.
During his career, Witherspoon is a .252 hitter with a .327 OBP and has hit 68 home runs in 601 minor league games. He has posted a career .733 OPS in 2,541 plate appearances. Witherspoon has played most of his career in center field. He has a .982 fielding percentage and 45 career assists. Witherspoon has never made an MLB appearance, but has been on the 40-man rosters for the Angels and Mariners. I would assume that Witherspoon will get a look at this spring, before breaking camp with the Dodger’s double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers.
Witherspoon is a Sumter, South Carolina native, and his nickname is “T-spoon”.
