Last Wednesday Gonzalez was presented with his gold glove and silver slugger bat, now tonight he’ll get another trophy to put on what is probably a very crowded mantle of awards.
The Wilson defensive player of the year awards are the only MLB sanctioned defensive awards. They were announced last October during a special one-hour show on MLB Network. Founded in 2012, the Wilson Defensive Player of the year awards are determined using formulas that combine traditional stats, and advanced defensive metrics. They also use data from the Inside Edge scouting service.

They apparently adjust the formula for pitchers and catchers, but here is the formula used.
25% Defensive War
25% Defensive Runs Saved
20% Inside Edge Fielding Rating
20% Inside Edge Arm Strength Rating
10% Fielding Percentage
Last year the defensive club of the year was given to the Cincinnati Reds. The overall defensive player of the year was given to outfielder Jason Heyward. They normally will name one player as the overall defensive player of the year, or the top defensive player before naming the top players at each position.
Gonzalez and Uribe both had terrific seasons with the glove last year. Gonzo had a .996 fielding percentage in 157 games, and had 12 defensive runs saved. He posted a +10 total zone fielding runs above average, and committed just six errors in 1,442 chances.

As for Uribe, he had seventeen defensive runs saved, and made six errors in 281 chances. In 102 games at third base, he posted a .979 fielding percentage with a +10 total zone runs above average.
