Los Angeles Dodgers Game Recaps: Dodgers Pound Rockies To Sweep Home Stand, Win Seventh Straight

Seismologists have reported trembling and quaking all over Southern California. Reports indicate the quakes are felt as far away as Las Vegas, and as far north as San Francisco. Experts are now saying the epicenter is located at 1000 Elysian Park Avenue, Dodger Stadium. The tremblers only occur when the Dodgers are hitting.

Everyone all over southern California felt the vibrations as the Dodgers used a seven run 14-hit attack to defeat the Rockies, and sweep the three game series. The Dodgers not only have swept the home stand, but also have now won their seventh straight game. The club has beaten Colorado nine straight times at Dodger Stadium.

The numbers are staggering. The Dodgers lead the National league with 17 home runs. They’ve hit 25 doubles, and have now scored five runs or more in eight straight games for the first time since 2010. The club hit three home runs in the fifth inning. The last time that happened (Hitting three home runs in an inning) was in 2007 when Jeff Kent, Matt Kemp, and yes Hong-Chih Kuo all homered in the same inning against the Mets.

The Dodgers got seven doubles, and slugged three home runs in the 7-0 win over Colorado Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers scored twice in the bottom of the second, and then put up five runs in a huge sixth inning. Justin Turner had four hits in a 4 for 5 day. He had three doubles, and a single. Scott Van Slyke had three hits, which included two doubles, a home run, and three runs batted in. Howie Kendrick had two hits as well, including a home run of his own. Joc Pederson had a double and a massive home run too. The Dodger offense is as balanced and solid as we’ve ever seen before.

The first five frames were a close pitching duel between Brandon McCarthy and rookie Eddie Butler. McCarthy was strong all afternoon. He limited the Rockies to just three hits and two walks across six innings pitched. He whiffed six and picks up his second win in Dodger blue. A dropped foul ball from Morneau also helped the cause for the Dodger’s offense.

Butler pitched well, but takes a hard luck loss. The rookie right hander threw five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four.

The Dodger bullpen once again put up more zeroes. Adam Liberatore pitched two scoreless frames, and Juan Nicasio finished the game in the ninth. Before the game the Dodger bullpen had posted an ERA of 0.52 in their last 17,1 innings pitched. They have 25 whiffs, and have limited opponents to a .105 batting average against over the last five games.  The Dodgers are now 9-3 on the season, and in sole possession of first place.

Both pitchers exchanged scoreless first frames, as McCarthy gets through his toughest frame. The Dodgers struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second. Kendrick singles, and after Andre Ethier flies out to left, Van Slyke’s run scoring double scores Kendrick to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Joc Pederson immediately doubles as well, which scores Van Slyke. The Dodgers lead 2-0. Pederson is picked off in between second and third base though, and the Dodgers settle for the two runs.

Another quick inning in the top of the third for McCarthy. Turner hits his first of three doubles in the third inning, but is left stranded when Butler retires Gonzalez and Rollins.

The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth inning, but are unable to score. A.J. Ellis’s flare single is his first hit of the season. A.J. also added a double of his own later. McCarthy sacrifices A.J. to second. Rollins walks, and Turner singles. However Gonzo fouls out, and the Rockies wiggle out of it.

Colorado had one look at the game in the top of the sixth, but McCarthy got a huge double play to get out of the inning. Former Dodger and pinch-hitter Rafael Ynoa draws a lead-off walk. Charlie Blackmon singles, and the Dodgers are in trouble.

Then McCarthy gets Cargo to pop out, and Tulowitzki grounds into an inning ending double play! Dodgers preserve the lead.

With the lead preserved, the Dodger bats take it the rest of the way. Against right hander Scott Oberg, the Dodgers bat around in the inning. Kendrick slams a solo home run over the center field wall. The shot gives the Dodgers a 3-0 lead! Then Ethier walks, and trots home when Van Slyke homers over the low wall in the left field corner. Van Slyke should have been out on a foul pop, but Morneau dropped the ball. The Dodgers now lead 5-0!

Joc Pederson follows with a huge blast into the right field pavilions. The solo shot is his second of the season, and the Dodgers lead 6-0. A.J. doubles, and scores on another Turner double, and the Dodgers lead is extended to 7-0.

There’s a walk to LeMahieu, but Arenado’s lopper to Rollins ends the game. The Dodgers win 7-0!

The Dodger hitting show will continue on the road, as the club will fly into San Francisco to take on the slumping Giants for a three game series. Monday is an off-day, and then the opening series will see Brett Anderson countering Tim Lincecum at 7:15 PM Tuesday evening. We hope you will join us then.

The Dodgers are now six games ahead of the Giants. The Boys in Blue are in first place, the offense is smashing the ball, the bullpen has been shutdown, and the Giants are in the toilet. Life is good eh Dodger fans? Go Blue!
