Dodgers Looking For Texas Justice in Game 2
By Scott Andes

The boys in blue do not have a day off until July 2. So this stretch is going to be one brutal slog of games for the Dodgers. The club will finish their road trip and their two game series with one final game at Arlington on Tuesday evening before they depart back to Dodger Stadium into the Southern California heat wave. Hopefully they won’t have any problems with their jet plane this time, god willing.
Left hander Brett Anderson will duel right handed rookie Chi Chi Gonzalez. Anderson’s last start against Arizona at home was mediocre, but the Dodgers thankfully came from behind to win. In that start Anderson went five frames, and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with three whiffs. Overall Anderson is 2-4 with a 3.57 ERA in 12 starts. However he has not won a decision since May 8. He has a 3.95 ERA this year away from Dodger Stadium.

He does have experience against the Rangers from back in his days with Oakland. Anderson is 1-4 with a 6.81 ERA against Texas. He has an 0-3 record with a 9.77 ERA in five games at Arlington. However, most of the current Rangers have seen very little of him. The Rangers are batting .227 (10 for 44) against him with one home run, and a .629 OPS against. Prince Fielder is 2 for 5 with a home run versus Anderson.

Texas will counter with rookie right hander Chi Chi Gonzalez. I have never seen young Chi Chi, and I am wagering that you haven’t either. Gonzalez is a 23-year old from Boynton Beach, Florida. The Rangers drafted him in the first round of the 2013 amateur draft.
He made his MLB debut on May 30, and since then has pitched well. He had a complete game three shutout victory over the Royals in his second start. The next outing was an eight inning one-run performance against Oakland. Overall he is 2-1 with a 0.42 ERA in three starts. He’s struck out only 8 and walked 10 in a little over 21 innings pitched. Apparently Gonzalez throws a low 90’s fastball, slider, changeup and can mix in a curve as well. He throws strikes, but has trouble with command. The Rangers are pretty high on him right now. He’s projected to be a solid number three type starter for them if he can figure out his control issues.
Stacie will have the call tonight while I arrive late to the action again because of work. Catch the game at 5:05 PM, and then catch our recap immediately afterwards. The Dodgers are holding onto a 3.5 game lead in the National League West.
