Henderson Alvarez

Alvarez should not be available. He’s had arm issues in the past and was awful in four starts with Miami last year, but this is probably my favorite option of the names on this list. He’ll be 26 in mid-April and is a year removed from a 2.65 ERA (3.58 FIP) 30-start season for the Marlins.

The Marlins non-tendered Alvarez, making him a free agent rather than agree to a contract or head to arbitration. He won’t be ready for opening day after being shut down last year with a shoulder issue, but the Dodgers would be wise to try to lock him up for part of this season and at least the 2017 season.

Alvarez will likely be highly sought after, as he should be. He won’t break the bank, but he seems to be a name not many are talking about. It’s unknown how much he’ll be able to contribute in 2016, but he could be a steal for years to come. If I’m the Dodgers, this is probably my main target as a huge buy-low possibility.
