First Base: Adrian Gonzalez vs Ryan Zimmerman

Gonzalez has to be one of the most inconsistently consistent players in baseball. He seems to be extremely streaky during the season, going through spells where he looks awful at the plate followed by stretches where no pitcher can get him out. At the end of the year, he always ends up with a .290ish average with enough pop and the ability to drive in runs.

Defensively, Gonzo could very well wind up in the Gold Glove conversation once again. He’s surprisingly quick at first and lord knows how many errors he’s dug out on low throws this season.

Zimmerman spent the better part of six years as that same consistent monster, but has really had a down year or two. This season was the worst of his career offensively as he finished with a 67 wRC+, the worst among first basemen with >400 PA’s. His defense isn’t exactly great at first, so this one also really isn’t close.
