Corey Seager Named Unanimous NL Rookie of the Year

Corey Seager was named the National League Rookie of the Year after an incredible season.

Yesterday, Corey Seager was unanimously named the National League Rookie of the Year. It was almost guaranteed once the 2016 season ended.  With an excellent slash line of .308./.365/.512, a robust 137 wRC+, and some excellent defensive work as noted by a 10.6 UZR, Corey Seager was an easy choice for Rookie of the Year. His 7.5 WAR was 5th in all of baseball, and 1st among rookies.

Seager was a favorite for this award before the season even began. After a strong showing in 2015, he was heralded as the #1 prospect in the MLB. With the starting shortstop job all his, Seager went to work putting up solid offensive and defensive numbers all year long.

Despite Trevor Story, Aledmys Diaz, and Trea Turner churning out incredibly strong seasons, it ultimately came down to Seager being able to produce all year long.

Seager now joins a long and prestigious list of former Dodgers to win the Rookie of the Year Award including, but not limited to, Hideo Nomo (1995), Mike Piazza (1993), Eric Karros (1992), Steve Sax (1982), Fernando Valenzuela (1981), Don Newcombe (1949), and of course Jackie Robinson (1947).
