Dodgers: MLB Names Alex Wood an All Star

SAN DIEGO, CA - JUNE 30: Alex Wood
SAN DIEGO, CA - JUNE 30: Alex Wood

Finally! The National League has rightened their wrong and added Justin Turner and Alex Wood to the NL All-Star team.

After winning the MLB Final Vote yesterday with a record-breaking 20.2 million votes, Justin Turner will now be joining his teammates to Mami for this year’s All-Star game. Turner received a record breaking amount of votes after fellow All-Star, Kenley Jansen apparently called out the fans for the Dodgers not having any starters in the NL lineup.

Kenley Jansen deserves credit as he sparked a fire in the city of Los Angeles and Turner’s campaign was being pushed on every sports talk show in the Los Angles and Orange County. The Dodgers also connected with huge Dodger fan group Pantone 294 to have the biggest Dodger fans work around the clock at Dodgers Stadium to ensure J.T. had a place on the NL roster.

More from Dodgers Way

The news keeps getting better and better today as our very own Alex Wood was named as one of the seven replacement to the All-Star roster, giving the Dodgers six players representing LA at the Mid-Summer Classic.

The last time that Dodgers had six All-Stars in was in 1981 when they sent Fernando Valenzuela, Burt Hooton, Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Dusty Baker, and Pedro Guerrero.

While at the current moment the Dodgers do not have any starters for the NL to see the MLB right their wrongs and add Turner and Wood to the roster has to have Dodger fans excited for the game on Tuesday, July 11th.

Naturally, there’s still some disappointment not having a starter, but the fans showed up to vote Turner in, and now the MLB has done their part announcing Alex Wood has now made the roster. The fact that Wood made the roster as a replacement is still head-scratching considering he’s 10-0 with a 1.67 ERA and just tossed seven scoreless innings with ten strikeouts against the second place Diamondbacks. But at least he’ll be there.

Next: Go Big or Sit Tight This Trade Deadline

It’s not surprising that the Dodgers have the most representatives this season as they own the best record in the National League (58-29) and dominating in the runs scored differential (+156). The Dodgers are going to be well represented down in Miami with Cody Bellinger participating in the Home Run Derby on Monday evening and Alex Verdugo and Yadier Alvarez competing in the Futures game.
