LOS ANGELES, CA – OCTOBER 31: Kenley Jansen /

Kenley Jansen

Kenley Jansen has been vital to the Dodgers success in the postseason and the World Series. He’s pitched in all but one game in the World Series and has been asked to get multiple outs to close games.

Jansen has five multi-out appearances since the start of the postseason, including three in the World Series. Although Jasen has looked a bit vulnerable in three of his outings, he’s an arm that Dave Roberts continues to rely on.

Jansen would be the first reliever to win a WS MVP since Mariano Rivera back in the 1999 World Series. In that series, Rivera pitched in 3 of the 4 games and did not allow a run in 4 2/3 innings pitched. He had a 1-0 record with a pair of saves in a Yankees sweep over the Braves.

Jansen’s numbers aren’t as shut down as Rivera’s numbers were in that World Series, but they are a testament to his workload. Jansen has pitched in 5 games, tossed 7 2/3 innings and has a 3.52 ERA with a pair of saves.

Jansen could be a long shot to win the award, but if he gets another 6-out save tonight, there is a case for Jansen for MVP.
