The Dodgers won in walk-off fashion last night as Rangers reliever Matt Bush threw wild to home plate and pulled his catcher off the plate.  Kiké Hernandez was able to dance around the tag of Carlos Perez to score the winning run.

The Dodgers pulled to within two games of the Arizona Diamondbacks by completing a two-game sweep of the Texas Rangers.  After failing to win the game in the ninth inning after Austin Barnes hit into a double play, Barnes had better luck in the eleventh inning due to a botched throw by Rangers reliever Matt Bush.  Justin Turner showed signs of life at the plate by blasting a solo home run in the first inning off Cole Hamels.  The Dodgers will look to keep the momentum going on Friday against the Giants after a well needed off day today.

Other news…

Kenta Maeda returned from his hip strain to give the Dodgers a serviceable start.  Although he only struck out one hitter, Maeda made it through five innings allowing two earned runs and walked three. Like with most pitchers returning from injury, it will be important to see how Kenta feels in the days following his first start from the disabled list.  If everything checks out then Maeda will make his next start in Chicago next week.

More from LA Dodgers News

  • Although the Dodgers and Rangers hardly play each other, there were some interleague fireworks on display last night as Matt Kemp barreled into Rangers’ catcher Robinson Chirinos and the benches cleared afterward.  The play appeared to be legit for Matt Kemp since Chirinos did not leave a clear path to the plate which is required with the new Buster Posey rule.  Although the play was clean, it would not be surprising if Kemp was suspended for a game along with Chirinos.
  • Rich Hill is scheduled to pitch four to five innings on Friday with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.  If Hill’s infamous blister makes it out of the game without being aggravated then Hill will rejoin the Dodgers rotation next week in Chicago.  It’s unknown what kind of pitch count Hill will be on but it’s safe to assume that he will not exceed sixty to seventy pitches.  Hill has not been good this season so if he can finally get going for the Dodgers then their rotation will receive a much-needed boost.

    • In other news for the Dodgers rotation that seemingly gets updated daily, Alex Wood has been pushed back from Friday to Saturday.  Ross Stripling will move up to pitch Friday’s game on normal rest and Wood will now face Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.  Caleb Ferguson is likely to get his third start of the season on Sunday as the rotation is still short on starting pitchers after Maeda’s return.  Clayton Kershaw continues to progress and thew another bullpen session with Andrew Friedman watching on Wednesday.  Kershaw’s return is still likely two weeks away.
