The Dodgers acquired two relievers and international bonus money from the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday in exchange for two pitchers including a recently drafted player.

The Dodgers front office is not taking the Fourth of July off as they acquired relievers Dylan Floro and Zach Neal from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Anuerys Zabala and James Marinan.  The Dodgers also received international bonus money in the deal in which they can use to sign international free agents.  To make room for Floro on the forty man roster, Daniel Corcino was designated for assignment.

More from LA Dodgers News

The trade is an interesting one that gives the Dodgers an arm for their bullpen immediately.  Dylan Floro is a sinkerball pitcher who the Dodgers can plug into their bullpen as soon as he arrives in LA.  This season Floro has been solid in 36 innings for the Reds posting a 2.72 ERA and a 3.33 FIP.  Floro can reach 93-95 on his fastball that has sinking action and has limited right-handed hitters to a .229 batting average this season.  Floro’s sinker has averaged 92.6 miles per hour this season.

The Dodgers also got another sinkerballer in the deal in Zach Neal who was dealt by the Dodgers to the Reds earlier this season as part of the Ariel Hernandez trade.  With the Dodgers seemingly running down to the limits of their depth in AAA, Neal will report to the OKC Dodgers and help fill some innings out of their bullpen.  Neal was awful with the Reds posting a 5.90 ERA, but with the OKC Dodgers earlier this season he had a 3.72 ERA.

The Dodgers potentially gave up an intriguing arm in James Marinan who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB draft.  This season, Marinan posted a 2.53 ERA with the Arizona rookie league Dodgers.  Last season Marinan pitched in the rookie league and posted a 1.59 ERA.  It’s far too early to predict how Marinan will end up but he seems to be a solid pickup for the Reds.

This move is very reminiscent of the Josh Fields deal in which the Dodgers added a very solid reliever that flew under the radar.  This season Josh Fields has been very good when healthy and if Floro can have the same kind of impact that Josh Fields has had then this will be a very good move for the Dodgers.  Since the Dodgers did not touch any of their best trade chips the Dodgers can still acquire more bullpen help before the deadline or even go after Manny Machado if they choose to.
